The Freddie March Spirit of Aviation presented by Bonhams|Cars is a staple of the Goodwood Revival, offering visitors a rare opportunity to get up close to some of the most renowned and beautifully preserved aircraft from the golden age of aviation. This unique concours d’elegance celebrates pre-1966 aircraft, most of which have played a defining role in shaping the course of aviation history.
Visitors can expect to see a spectacular range of historic planes, including much-admired British Hurricanes and Spitfires - legendary aircraft that played a crucial role during the Second World War.
Joining the display will be the Miles Magister and De Havilland Fox Moth - both instrumental in training Royal Air Force pilots before and during the war. These aircraft provided aspiring pilots with their first solo flying experiences, preparing them for the intensity of wartime combat.
This year’s line-up also welcomes two North American Mustang CA-18s, a formidable American long-range escort and ground attack fighter-bomber, alongside a Thunderbolt P-47D, known for its extensive service with the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War.
With an impressive array of aircraft on display, the coveted ‘Best in Show’ will be decided by a panel of judges on Sunday. The panel includes renowned television presenter and motoring journalist Richard Hammond, pioneering former Royal Air Force pilot Jo Salter - Britain’s first female fast jet pilot - as well as Matthew Wilkins, Chairman of the British Air Display Association, and recently-appointed Operator of Solent Airport, Amelia Richardson, the UK’s youngest gliding instructor and aerobatics pilot and Squadron Leader Alan Jones, Director of Solent Sky Museum.
Each morning, the event will open with an impressive fly-past. Public access to the site is from 8.30am, while Goodwood Road Racing Club Members and Fellows have priority access from 7.30am.
The following aircraft will be displayed on the Infield behind the Aerodrome Café across the weekend:
