• TV’s Dominic Chinea curates a celebration of sustainable heritage crafts at Goodwood Revival
•Workshops will share the ‘Make Do and Mend’ approaches of post-war Britain to breathe new life into pre-loved belongings
• Goodwood Revival takes place Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September
Held in the beautiful West Sussex countryside – this year, Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September - Goodwood Revival is an immersive vintage experience set in period theme. As we recreate the glamour and excitement that suffused the glory days of motor racing at Goodwood from 1948 to 1966, we revisit a time when people would ‘make do and mend’ cherished belongings for a lifetime of use.
To mark 5 years of the Revive and Thrive Workshop, a new programme of classes and demonstrations will showcase original ways to reduce, reuse, repair, restore and recycle for authentic circular consumption. Star of The Repair Shop and Make it at Market, Dominic Chinea has curated a line-up of master craftspeople, artisans and restoration experts to inspire a new hobby – or even, career – during the Revival weekend. Drop-in sessions in embroidery, applique repairs, silverwork, block printing, kintsugi, monogramming, macrame, collage, bead rolling, textile upcycling and pyrography will keep makers of every ability busy. Dominic’s sparkling line-up includes Goose Glitters, Nerrisa Pratt, The Repair Shop’s Brenton West, Hattie McGill (Wicked, Bridgerton), Isabella Strambio, Lydia Finney and the Great British Sewing Bee’s Lauren Tedstone and Georgie Carter.
This creative hub will also feature traditional upholstery techniques with Make it at Market’s Fox & Furb; gilding with Dave Smith MBE and Eddy Bennett, and signwriting with Joby Carter. Heritage Skills Academy will be stationed in the historic Tyrrell Shed, allowing the next generation of classic car experts to hone their craft in the very same space in which Ken Tyrrell built his first Formula 1 Grand Prix-winning machines.
The Duke of Richmond said: “For the past five years, the Revive & Thrive Workshop has allowed us to reconnect with the best of the past and as an antidote to throw away culture, share how special pieces can be treasured, valued, and passed down through generations. Dominic has been central to this ever-expanding part of Goodwood Revival, and so I’m delighted he’s back to create the biggest celebration of heritage craft at this year’s event, alongside the very best makers, artisans and restorers in the country.”
Interview time is available with Dominic Chinea for select titles.
