Drifters torture tyres in sideways style

Festival of Speed | Press Article 16/04/24

Ever since ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett visited the Festival of Speed in 2014 and blew visitors’ minds with his bravura display of car control, drifting has become a Goodwood staple. Whiddett and several of the world’s premier drifters are out in force at Goodwood this weekend, flambéing tyres and guiding their mega-horsepower steeds on their lockstops. Whiddett braves perhaps the wildest drift car ever to shred rubber, a rear-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracán dubbed ‘Slambo’. Then there’s Ryan Tuerck’s Toyota ‘GT4586’ which is packing a naturally aspirated V8 from a Ferrari 458… And let’s not forget Irishman Dean ‘Karnage’ Kearney in his blown and nitrous oxide-injected Dodge Viper, and five-time Middle East Drift Champion Ahmad Daham who is making his Goodwood debut in his freshly completed Lexus RC-F. And the biggest draw in drifting is back again this year, Ken Block this time laying on the tyre smoke in his Ford F150-based ‘Hoonitruck’. Once seen, never forgotten…
