Local residents are invited to a free Aviation Open Day at the newly opened historic Goodwood Aerodrome building on May 25, from 10am – 4.00pm.
The roar of engines will fill the sky, while an array of aircraft will be on display including gliders, the Pilatus PC-12, and Westland Wasp, to name a few. Alongside having a chance to climb aboard and meet the pilots, there will be opportunities to experience the thrills of flying in a fighter jet first hand in the MACH 3 Simulator.
Aside from the aviation, there will be tether hot air balloon flights, while inside, the new Goodwood Aerodrome Café features a wonderful seating area, serving a selection of freshly brewed teas and coffees, alongside breakfast and light bites from a delicious array of dishes using locally sourced produce.
The thriving centre of aviation will offer behind-the-scenes tours of the aerodrome building with the new rooftop observation deck hosting a vast collection of model aircraft from the Chichester and District Model Aero Club.
Airline Pilot, Captain Kate McWilliams recalls; “My earliest aviation memories were sitting in the back of Cessna on my Dad’s first flying lesson at the age of 4 and going to an air show a year later to watch the Red Arrows for the first time. Those memories have stayed with me all of these years and certainly played a part in inspiring me to consider an aviation career. I believe it is even more important now than ever to get youngsters airside to create those memories that will inspire the next generation of pilots, aeronautical engineers, and air traffic controllers.”
Dogs are welcome and parking will be available on site with all charity proceeds going to Canine Partners; the UK based charity transforms the lives of people living with disabilities by training assistance dogs.

About Goodwood Aerodrome
Goodwood Aerodrome was originally created to assist the War effort. Known as RAF Westhampnett, the busy fighter station was active from July 1940 as a Battle of Britain airfield, through to May 1946. Now home to some 100 aircraft, ranging from vintage warbirds to modern rotary and fixed wing aircraft, Goodwood Aerodrome is known for its picturesque setting and is popular with visiting pilots. The new aerodrome café is open daily from 09:00 – 18:00 throughout the summer; however, this is subject to change with the season. Hot food is served until 14:30 daily, while sandwiches and baguettes are available until 16:30. For those wishing to enjoy the facilities into the evening, hot and cold drinks will be on offer until 17:45.
