Goodwood Estate is delighted to announce the transformation of The Goodwood Hotel into a luxury coaching inn, marking the next chapter in the Estate’s evolution. A significant refurbishment programme, scheduled throughout 2027, represents a long-term investment in future-proofing the Goodwood experience for a new generation of guests. The reimagined hotel will comprise 64 bedrooms, 16 new suites, two restaurants, a snug, library, boot room and intimate event spaces.
Originally an 18th Century coaching inn and thriving market garden supplying fruit, vegetables and flowers to Goodwood House, the hotel is tucked into a wooded corner of the Estate and has long played an integral role in life at Goodwood.
Beautifully restored, it will reaffirm its position as the gateway to the Estate, and a stepping stone to experiencing Goodwood’s world-renowned motorsport, aviation, championship golf, wellness offerings, exceptional food from Goodwood Farm and the surrounding natural landscape.
At the helm of this transformation is Russell Sage Studio, the acclaimed hospitality designer known for seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary comfort and projects such as The Fife Arms, LVMH’s Ardbeg House, The Goring and Hauser & Wirth.
Drawing on the Estate’s rich history, Russell Sage Studio will create spaces that capture the warmth and character of a traditional coaching inn, where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature and feel inspired. The Estate's story will be woven into every detail, from seasonal menus celebrating produce from Goodwood Farm to interiors inspired by the historic landscape and experiences that have shaped life at Goodwood for generations.
The Duke of Richmond & Gordon said: “For centuries, successive Dukes have invited guests to share in the experiences they loved at Goodwood, from hunting and horseracing, to flying, farming, motor racing, wellbeing, nature and art. We wanted to return to that original spirit and create somewhere from which guests can explore, discover and deeply connect with nature. This is much more than a refurbishment. It is an opportunity to elevate and redefine the Hotel for future generations while remaining true to everything that makes Goodwood so special”.
Russell Sage added: “I’m thrilled to work with Goodwood Estate on this exciting new chapter for The Goodwood Hotel. The original inn and surrounding buildings hold an extraordinary history, and we want that story to become one of the defining reasons guests fall in love with the reimagined Goodwood Hotel. We’re uncovering its fascinating past, celebrating and preserving its treasures, while creating something that feels fresh, relevant and focussed on the future. We’re also bringing together an impressive roster of local artists and makers to collaborate us on this journey. Their work will help create a truly special experience for a new generation of guests - one that brings them closer to the character, creativity and spirit of the glorious Goodwood Estate. With the Estate’s extraordinary heritage and long-standing reputation for exceptional hospitality, I have no doubt that The Goodwood Hotel will become a very special second home - a place guests will want to return to, time and time again."
The reimagined Goodwood Hotel is expected to welcome guests in early 2028, marking a significant milestone in the Estate’s continued evolution and reinforcing Goodwood’s position as one of Britain's leading countryside destinations. Further details, including design updates, construction milestones and exclusive previews, will be shared as the project progresses, inviting guests to follow the journey towards this exciting new chapter.
Whilst the main hotel will be closed throughout 2027, Goodwood's collection of self-catering holiday cottages will remain open, providing guests with the opportunity to enjoy a memorable stay in the heart of the Estate. Bookings will continue to be available at goodwood.com.
