  • Classic Range Rover and rare Land Rovers joined by modern day models for 70-strong celebration
    • Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from 1215 July 2018

An original Range Rover and one of the last ever Defenders will headline a Land Rover anniversary parade at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.

Owners of 70 cars will drive up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb on Thursday July 12 to mark the British brand’s 70th anniversary this year - celebrating the world's favourite 4x4s and the people who love them.

One of the stars of the parade will be one of the last Defenders to roll off the production line, owned by Roger Crathorne, known as “Mr Land Rover”.

Crathorne’s Defender 90 will be joined by other iconic models and their proud owners including Bob and Joe Ives’s Camel Trophy Defender, Gary Pusey’s chassis number 40 classic Range Rover and a V8 50th anniversary Defender owned by Sue Cummings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq96dH9X3ho

The incredible collection of iconic off-roaders will also feature classics like the first 1947 Land Rover prototype Hue 166 and the Series II 1959 Land Rover African Expedition, plus the current Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEV, Evoque and Velar.

Roger Crathorne, ‘Mr Land Rover’, said: “Being a part of Land Rover history is a great honour, I have owned a Land Rover most of my life and have worked for Land Rover for more than five decades. I’m thrilled to take part in the anniversary parade up the Goodwood Hillclimb with the other owners and cars as celebration of this epic landmark.”

The Goodwood Festival of Speed Anniversary parade is the latest event in a long line of celebrations for Land Rover marking 70 years since the Land Rover launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948.

The Festival is also celebrating its own anniversary, with 2018 representing the Silver Jubilee. Renowned for attracting the rarest and most exciting road and race cars and bikes ever created, Goodwood has staged the Festival of Speed every summer since 1993.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, founder of Goodwood Festival of Speed, said: “It’s a great occasion for us to be able to bring two iconic British institutions together in anniversary years. We’re honoured to be able to host the Land Rover 70th parade up the hill for our Silver Jubilee.”

The FoS Future Lab will also be open again this year, focusing on space exploration, autonomous transport, robotics and personal flight. Visitors will be able to view displays and demonstrations, interact with some of the technology for themselves and learn more about these exciting innovations.

FoS Future Lab will be open to the public throughout the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from the 12 – 15 July 2018, 7am – 7pm each day.

Hospitality packages are now very limited throughout the weekend. To buy tickets or enquire about hospitality visit Goodwood.com or call the Goodwood Ticket Office on 01243 755 055.
