Goodwood Racecourse is delighted to bring together guests from the worlds of racing, regenerative agriculture, and human health for a unique day of conversation and celebration on the opening day of May Festival on Friday 22 May.

Building on the success of Goodwood’s October Health Summit, which examined the relationship between soil microbiome and human microbiome, Goodwood will be continuing these conversations while also marking the 80th anniversary of the Soil Association. Guests will begin the day with two morning discussions at Goodwood House, hosted by Helen Browning of the Soil Association, before heading to Goodwood Racecourse to continue conversations and enjoy an afternoon of racing. The day will include dedicated races in honour of both the Soil Association and the Sustainable Food Trust.

The discussions will be led by Patrick Holden of the Sustainable Food Trust and clinical nutritionist Stephanie Moore, joined by Daniel Iddon of Re-Genus and Dr Hannah Fraser, a doctor and first-generation farmer.

More information about the Soil Association, the Sustainable Food Trust and Edward Bulmer Natural Paints can be found below.

Soil Association

The Soil Association is the charity that joins forces with nature for a better future. For 80 years, the Soil Association has worked to transform the way we all eat, farm and care for our natural world, building real solutions from the ground up across the whole spectrum of food, farming and forestry. Their vision is regeneration - a world with good health, in balance with nature and a safe climate.  More than half of birds on Britain’s farms have disappeared, soil health is at its lowest, and species that were once common are now struggling to survive.

With 70% of the UK made up of farmland, restoring nature at scale has to start here. For 80 years, the Soil Association, supported by a community of members, has been proving that nature-friendly farming works.

Sustainable Food Trust

Founded in 2011, the Sustainable Food Trust is a registered charity working to accelerate the transition to sustainable food systems. Inspired by the interconnectedness of the health of soil, plants, animals and people, we work collaboratively to overcome the barriers preventing wider adoption of sustainable farming practices. Through research, communications and advocacy, we contribute to mainstream discussions, guide decision-making and hold businesses and governments to account on sustainability – with the aim of creating food and farming systems that nourish the health of people and planet, and are equitable and accessible to all.

Edward Bulmer Natural Paints

Edward Bulmer Natural Paints partnership with Goodwood is deeply connected to the brand’s origins.

While working as an interior designer on the Goodwood Estate, Edward Bulmer was asked to create interiors using only natural, non-toxic materials. While this proved straightforward across most elements, it revealed a gap when it came to paint. Frustrated by the lack of genuinely natural options, he began developing his own, marking the beginning of Edward Bulmer Natural Paint.

Today, the company creates breathable, low-VOC paints using plant-based binders and earth and mineral pigments, offering excellent coverage, lasting durability, and a depth of colour that moves beautifully with the light.

Rooted in a respect for the natural world, the colours reflect the landscapes and materials that surround us – an approach that feels particularly at home at Goodwood, where heritage, craft and the land are so closely intertwined.
