Goodwood revs up for another event like no other

Members Meeting | Press Article 16/04/24

The 76th Members’ Meeting, held at Goodwood Motor Circuit on March 17-18, will once again transport Goodwood Road Racing Club Members and those that are part of the GRRC Fellowship back to their school days, with off-track entertainment centred around the excitement of old-school sports days.

The Members’ Meeting concept was reinvented in 2014, inspired by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon’s desire to celebrate the previous 71 BARC Members’ Meetings held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit from 1949-66. Revived in response to demand from Members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club, the Members’ Meeting offers a more relaxed and intimate event for the motorsport enthusiast.

Continuing the format of the modern Goodwood Members’ Meeting, competitors and spectators alike will be split into four ‘Houses’. Inspired by the subsidiary titles of the Duke of Richmond & Gordon, the four Houses are Aubigny, Darnley, Methuen and Torbolton, each taking a visual cue from either one of the Duke’s crests or the coat-of-arms.

While on-track competitors will earn points via their racing performances, spectators will have the opportunity to earn points towards the House Shield, currently held by Torbolton, for their designated House through a series of games and activities around the Motor Circuit.

Nestled in the beautiful South Downs, the Goodwood Motor Circuit will be a vibrant yellow scene, with over 100,000 freshly planted golden daffodils, fluttering and dancing around the site. Lavant Corner will be transformed into Country Corner for the weekend, with house points on offer for success in ferret racing, duck herding and shooting, in the form of laser clay pigeons and air rifles. Alternatively, the Social Club, located on the outside of Woodcote Corner in the historic Supershell building, will house traditional pub games such as darts, snooker and skittles, while also providing the perfect location to challenge fellow visitors to a game of Wheel-to-Wheel playing cards, contesting the vital stats of each of the mighty machines competing at Members’ Meeting against one another.

New for 2018 will be the Gymnasium, where visitors can work on their physique with press-ups and chin-ups, or take on hockey or lacrosse outside on the Gymnasium Lawn. For those wanting an escape from the physical activities the Gymnasium will also be showing live coverage of the final day of the 6 Nations on the Saturday and serving up refreshments throughout the weekend.

For those wanting to try their hands at shooting penalties, the skid pan is the place to be, where the all-new Off-Road Shootout will be taking place. Visitors can earn points for their House simply by scoring a goal, using a Jeep rather than their own feet to attack the (oversized) ball.

Another new feature for the 76th Members’ Meeting includes the “Taste of Goodwood" Teepee on the March Lawn behind the Old Control Tower, celebrating the organic meats, cheeses, ales and lagers produced on the Estate. Visitors can enjoy some cookery demonstrations before sampling some of the finest cheeses and meats from our Home Farm, courtesy of our onsite restaurant Farmer, Butcher, Chef. For those in need of a tipple, the Home Farm will also be offering Goodwood’s own Ales & Lager, alongside The Kennels’ Gin Trolley Experience.

In true Goodwood style there’ll be an electrifying party on the Saturday evening following the conclusion of the Gerry Marshall Trophy, culminating in a firework display to end all firework displays.
