McLaren Racing announces 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed line-up

Festival of Speed | Press Article 16/06/25

McLaren Racing has today announced its line-up for the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, running four iconic cars up the Hill.

McLaren will be commemorating the team’s legacy by running the MP4/4, M23, MP4/2B and McLaren F1 GTR. The papaya outfit will also be celebrating the 2024 FIA Formula One Constructors’ Championship win by displaying the MCL38 in the garage, alongside the MP4/23, which won the 2008 FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Championship.

To mark 40 years since the team’s 1985 championship win, the MP4/2B will take to the Hill, with driving duties shared between Bruno Senna and Rob Garofall. The car won six races that season, visiting the podium an additional six times, with Alain Prost earning the Drivers’ Championship title.

As previously announced, four-time World Champion Alain Prost will return to the Festival of Speed and will drive the iconic MP4/4, on Saturday and Sunday. The car, owned by Nicholas & Shelley Schorsch of the Audrain Collection, won seven out of 16 races during the 1988 season, contributing to the team’s double championship win that year.

30 years on from the team’s 24 Hours of Le Mans win, which secured McLaren’s Triple Crown victory, JJ Lehto will also get back behind the wheel of the McLaren F1 GTR which won the legendary race in 1995.

Additionally, a special 15th chassis of Emerson Fittipaldi’s World Championship winning M23 will take to the Hill. A group of apprentices and interns were given the opportunity to build the chassis using contemporary in-period methods where possible, creating an authentic 15th iteration of the legendary car. The project was led by Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer at McLaren Formula 1 Team, who will be driving the car, sharing duties with Bruno Senna.

McLaren Racing will be based in the Formula 1 Paddock and the team will run up the Hill each day.

Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer, McLaren Formula 1 Team, said: “It’s great for McLaren to be back at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It’s the perfect occasion to showcase our own heritage alongside our more recent achievements, and to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Formula 1.

“30 years on from our victory at Le Mans, it’s great to be able to have JJ Lehto driving the F1 GTR and it will be special to see Alain Prost drive his 1988 MP4/4. It’s also fantastic to be able to run the MP4/2B to commemorate 40 years since Alain’s first Drivers’ Championship victory.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to drive the M23-15 and showcase the team’s hard work and talent. To be able to bring such a challenging project to life, involving such a wide range of team members across departments is a special moment, and is a great way to recognise the team’s first Championship win.We really enjoy being part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, so we look forward to seeing it all come to life for another year.”

The 2025 Festival of Speed has joined forces with Formula 1 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the World Championship. The event’s biggest celebration will feature over 100 cars and welcome former champions including Alain ProstMario Andretti and Nigel Mansell, as well as legendary designers and innovators Adrian Newey, Gordon Murray and Ross Brawn. McLaren Racing joins Atlassian Williams Racing and MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in the F1 Pit Lane, with further teams to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
