An exciting 24-strong entry, featuring Group-race form and some of the season's most progressive juvenile fillies, has been assembled for the British EBF £100,000 2YO Fillies' Series Final at Goodwood Racecourse on Wednesday 23 September.
The valuable seven-furlong contest brings the curtain down on the British EBF Fillies' Series and promises a fascinating end-of-season clash between established big-race performers and improving fillies seeking to finish their juvenile campaigns on a high.
With £100,000 in prize money on offer, and prizes paid down to eighth place, the Class 2 Final provides a lucrative target for connections. The race is open to fillies who have finished in the first six in a British EBF Restricted Maiden or Novice during the campaign, rewarding the owners and breeders who have supported the programme throughout the season.
The strength of the race was underlined emphatically by last year's winner, Timeforshowcasing. Charlie Johnston's filly, owned by Jaber Abdullah, has since gone on to land the Group 2 German 1,000 Guineas at Düsseldorf, providing this year's contenders with an impressive example to follow.
Among the leading names in this year's 24 entries is Eabha, who brings proven Group-race form back to Goodwood. Eve Johnson Houghton's daughter of Space Blues finished a gallant second in the Group 3 Prestige Fillies' Stakes over the course and distance in August, earning valuable black type in the process.
Zigazig Ah brings another major piece of form to the prospective line-up. Trained by Richard Spencer for owner-breeder Phil Cunningham, she landed the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury in July, prevailing in a thrilling photo finish to collect the £143,000 first prize.
Nicely adds further strength for Kevin Philippart De Foy and Amo Racing. A winner of the Powells Jewellery EBF Fillies' Conditions Stakes at Chester, she has also gained international experience at Deauville and sits among those towards the head of the ratings.
The depth of the 24-strong entry adds further intrigue. Salisbury winner Fillipas could represent Rod Millman and Middleham Park Racing, while China In Your Hand, successful at Newmarket, is entered for Charlie Fellowes. James Owen could be represented by dual winner Coral Cove, who carries the colours of Nick Bradley Racing.
There are also several less exposed fillies with the potential to take another significant step forward, including Karl Burke's Lady Foxtrot, a winner on debut earlier this month.
With 24 fillies entered, proven Group-race performers and progressive youngsters are set to converge on the Sussex Downs for what promises to be a fiercely competitive finale to the British EBF Fillies' Series.
Final declarations will be confirmed ahead of racing on Wednesday 23 September.
