Great racing, superb hospitality and family fun - the August Bank Holiday festival presented by Virgin Bet is the perfect way to spend the long weekend. Taking place from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August, Goodwood Racecourse comes alive with entertainment for all the family, with under-18s going free.
Across Friday to Sunday, racegoers can experience the beautiful surroundings of the racecourse with trips to the start and enjoy complimentary family activities, from magicians to face painting. In addition, there’s the vintage fairground and live music that will set the summer tone for a memorable bank holiday.
Racing highlights include the prestigious Group 2 Celebration Mile on Saturday, whilst Sunday hosts the £100,000 Group 3 Prestige Stakes for fillies and mares. On Friday gates open at 3.30pm with racing commencing at 4.35pm, while on Saturday and Sunday entry is from 11.30am with the first race at 1.25pm.
August Bank Holiday festival is also during National Racehorse Week - a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse that takes place from Saturday 22 to Monday 31 August. Racing training yards, studs and aftercare centres up and down the country will open their doors to the public to get up close to the equine stars of horseracing, providing family-friendly demonstrations, exciting displays, and a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after them.
Great British Racing, who run National Racehorse Week, will also bring its ‘urban racing yard’ to the heart of Portsmouth at Gunwharf Quays Waterfront on the 29th August, to give even more people the chance to meet a racehorse. There will be a host of activities that include the chance to experience riding like a jockey and farrier and physio demonstrations.

Friday evening's fireworks display has been cancelled due to the prolonged dry weather and the resulting increased risk of wildfires.
The main Lennox Enclosure Grandstand will be closed on August Bank Holiday - the Lennox Enclosure will be open as usual.

About National Racehorse Week
National Racehorse Week is a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse and a chance to see first-hand the love, care, and attention that goes into looking after them. Born out of an idea in 2019 by trainer Richard Phillips to create a single event that could be hosted by the racing industry, National Racehorse Week is celebration of the animals who power racing and provide entertainment for millions, whilst also providing the public and policymakers with insight into the dedicated care that they receive. Racing training yards up and down the country will be opening their doors from 22 to 31 August to show the general public the lives that these incredible animals lead.
