The Charlton Hunt Summer Exhibition

Goodwood Estate | Press Article 17/04/24

Each year, an exhibition is held in Goodwood House relating to the history of Goodwood and highlighting particular items in the collection. This August, Goodwood House is opening its doors for the summer exhibition which explores the history of the famous Charlton Hunt, synonymous with some of the best sport in the country.

The Charlton Hunt is the reason the first Duke of Richmond bought Goodwood House so that he could join in the chase. It is also one of the earliest recorded foxhunts in the world and its fame drew the elite of society, including the Dukes of Monmouth, St Albans and Richmond and the dashing illegitimate sons of King Charles II.

Take your time to wander through the state apartments, enjoying the stunning art collection on display which include the likes of Stubbs, Van Dyck and Canalettos and why not indulge in the surroundings of the Regency ballroom and enjoy a luxury afternoon tea.

The exhibition is taking place from the 1st August to 31st August 2016, Sundays to Thursdays, 1pm - 5pm (last admission 4 pm).
