Festival of Speed | Press Article 17/04/24

Goodwood is delighted to share further details of the 2024 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard’s event charity partner: Two Wheels for Life.

The Festival of Speed is recognised globally as one of the world’s premier motorsport events, attracting thousands of enthusiasts and industry leaders each year. With its rich history and commitment to celebrating automotive excellence, the event provides a unique platform for Two Wheels for Life to raise awareness and funds for its important cause.

Two Wheels for Life is dedicated to transforming healthcare across Africa using the power of motorcycles. Through innovative programmes and strategic partnerships, the charity ensures the delivery of medical supplies, vaccines, and healthcare workers to remote communities, ultimately saving countless lives.

The 2024 Festival of Speed promises to be another spectacular occasion, featuring current MotoGP™️ stars, former World Champions and legendary racing motorcycles as Grand Prix motorcycle racing celebrates its 75th anniversary.

As the official charity partner of the 2024 Festival of Speed, Two Wheels for Life will be on site all weekend with an army of volunteers and a dedicated space near the MotoGP paddocks. They will be showcasing the incredible work they do in Africa, displaying some of the vehicles used for delivery of healthcare, and offering visitors the chance to meet some of their famous supporters and get involved. There will also be the opportunity to bid on and win amazing items and experiences from the world of MotoGP and beyond.

The Duke of Richmond, said: “We have chosen the Two Wheels for Life charity for the 2024 Festival of Speed because it not only provides essential - and much needed - support for people in remote areas of Africa but also because they use motorcycles to reach those in need.

“After leaving school, I spent time working with a doctor in Africa in some of the most remote places so I am very aware of the challenges faced.

“Over the years, the Festival of Speed has become increasingly popular with bike racing fans who come to see their heroes from MotoGP, the Isle of Man TT and the British Superbike series. I have no doubt that all of our visitors this summer will want to help a charity that makes such good use of two wheels, away from roads and race tracks and I hope they will help us support such a good cause.”

Andrea Coleman, CEO of Two Wheels for Life said: “We are honoured to be chosen as the official charity partner for the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This partnership not only highlights the importance of our work at one of the biggest motorsport events in the world, but also presents an incredible opportunity to engage with a passionate audience and rally support for our cause.”

About Two Wheels for Life
Two Wheels for Life supports programmes that ensure health care reaches the poorest and most remote communities in Africa.

Motorcycles save lives
As the official charity of MotoGP™, Two Wheels for Life (Two Wheels) run unique events for motorcycle racing fans. These include exclusive paddock experiences across Europe, internationally renowned auctions and our Day of Champions family day out before the British MotoGP™ which raises 200k alone.

Powering healthcare in Africa
The programmes we support operate across Africa in Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria and The Gambia. Focusing on the single issue of transport for health workers, they address essential but otherwise neglected aspect of health care in Africa.

Health workers immunise newborns, diagnose disease, educate in nutrition for children, provide preventative measures to combat disease and help for women in dangerous labour. These services must reach the most remote parts of Africa where it is desperately needed. To do this reliable transport is vital.

In many parts of Africa the terrain is difficult and there is nothing like the network of garages and service centres we rely on in Europe. Transport is haphazard. Vehicles break down, clinics don't get run, tests are delayed, women with complications give birth unaided. And the consequences are deadly.

The programmes we support ensure that health workers are able to use motorcycles and other vehicles that are appropriate for the terrain. They are trained to ride and maintain their vehicles regularly and given access to the fuel and clothing they need to do their jobs reliably and safely.

Management
Founded by Andrea Coleman, a former motorcycle racer with 30 years’ experience in charity leadership and MotoGP™ legend Randy Mamola.

What does the money raised by Two Wheels for Life get spent on?
All of the money raised by Two Wheels for Life will go to life-saving programmes in some of the poorest and most remote areas of Africa thanks to the work of Two Wheels’ charity partner, Riders for Health.

Following the tough covid-impacted year of 2020, huge efforts have been made to find alternative funding to keep the African operations going and this includes ideas like increasing the Two Wheels for Life online shop and links with partners including Yamaha.

Two Wheels are also the official charity of the FIM and MotoGP™ and with their support is able to run unique events and give motor racing fans access to exclusive experiences and unique moto-memorabilia. The projects supported mean health workers can reach the most isolated people with the health care they so desperately need.
