Goodwood Revival | Press Article 17/04/24

  • New York’s vintage impresario Dandy Wellington will lead Goodwood Revival’s new lifestyle hub, the Revive and Thrive Village in a joyous celebration of all things vintage and second-hand.
  • Dandy will bring the #VintageStyleNotVintageValues ethos to life on the Revive and Thrive Stage, championing the inclusive spirit of the modern-day vintage world with key influencers.

Goodwood is thrilled to announce that New York Jazz Bandleader and style activist, Dandy Wellington, will be headlining the Goodwood Revival’s new Revive and Thrive lifestyle hub, where workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and talks will share modern outlooks in vintage spaces.

When he’s not hosting vintage events in New York or performing with his band to rapt audiences around the world, Dandy is inspiring people to expand their wardrobes with sustainable and ethically-sourced vintage pieces. He is also an advocate of the motto #VintageStyleNotVintageValues, using his platform to eschew the more regressive views of the past for an inclusive, welcoming vintage community around the world.

Held in the beautiful West Sussex countryside every September, Goodwood Revival is an immersive vintage experience set in period theme. Each year as we recreate the glamour and excitement that suffused the glory days of motor racing at Goodwood from 1948 to 1966, we revisit a time when people would ‘make do and mend’ cherished belongings for a lifetime of use.

In 2022, the Revive and Thrive Village will embrace that strikingly relevant ethos with heritage skill-focused workshops and demonstrations, and by amplifying the voices of those with a passion for vintage through a schedule of talks.

Dandy will be moderating the Revive and Thrive talks, exploring the human stories behind our favourite second-hand treasures, offering rare insights into vintage living and empowering visitors to source their own vintage pieces.

Of his upcoming Revival debut this September, Dandy said: “I'm beyond excited to bring a touch of Old New York to Goodwood Revival and create this incredible new experience with my vintage friends across the pond. I’ve heard great things about this event, so I'm looking forward to a weekend amongst the classic cars, bygone glamour and frivolity unique to Revival. The Revive and Thrive talks represent an opportunity to engage with the diverse stories and perspective of the UK vintage community; to learn from and celebrate the past through a modern lens. It's sure to be an unforgettable weekend - I can’t wait!”

The Duke of Richmond, founder of Goodwood Revival, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dandy to Revival to open up this new avenue of content for our visitors. We want to reconnect with the best of the past and as an antidote to throw away culture, share how special pieces can be treasured, valued and passed down through generations, and ultimately share this platform with those who really live and breathe this a more sustainable way of life.”

The rest of the stellar line-up of experts and influencers to meet in the Revive and Thrive Village will be announced soon.

About the Goodwood Revival
The Goodwood Revival is the world’s greatest historic motor race meeting, and the only sporting event of its kind to be staged entirely in a period theme. More than just an unrivalled weekend of historic racing, it is an immersive celebration of a less disposable world, where “make do and mend” was a way of life rather than a casual slogan.

The Revival is, at its heart, a celebration of craftsmanship and sustainability, from an age when possessions were made to last and be cherished. It promotes a thoroughly modern ethos – to “reduce, reuse, repair, restore and recycle” – in the most authentic way possible. All the cars are original, having been lovingly maintained since new, many of the outfits have been handed down through generations, and even the retailers specialise in pre-owned artefacts – everything from clothes and accessories to automobilia and books.

It is, proudly, the world’s biggest and most glamorous second-hand event.
